Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - Still in the midst of a race to the MLS Cup Playoffs, the Montreal Impact will be back at Stade Saputo for its penultimate home game of the season this Wednesday night at 7:30pm against the San Jose Earthquakes (pregame show at 7pm on TVA Sports, 985sports.ca & TSN Radio 690).
Excellent individual tickets for this game still available on 6697f197cb48970a40fa9be22 impactmontreal.com.
"We have to be focused on what we can control, and that is our responsibilities on the field, individually and collectively," said Impact head coach Mauro Biello. "We're aware of our situation and of our place in the standings. At the end of the day, it's about building this performance, growing throughout the game and finding that result against a hardworking San Jose team."
The Impact advises supporters to get to Stade Saputo early and to use public transit. Pie-IX Blvd. will be partially closed in the northbound direction, from Pierre-de-Coubertin Ave. to Mont-Royal Ave., preventing vehicles from turning right on Sherbrooke East St. Traffic disruptions are also scheduled on Pierre-de-Coubertin Ave., between Viau St. and Pie-IX Blvd., until the end of the season.
Reaching Stade Saputo via Hochelaga St. in the westbound direction may also be complicated due to roadwork. The Impact recommends avoiding this section of Hochelaga St., driving north on L'Assomption Blvd., west on Sherbrooke St. and south on Viau St.
Please also take note of the full implementation of new security measures upon entering the stadium. All bags larger than 35 cm x 35 cm x 15 cm are prohibited. The full rules and regulations can be viewed on bdd87eb65cb2f7d55f6558b00 impactmontreal.com.
The Bleu-blanc-noir unbeaten against the Earthquakes The Impact will be taking on a team it has enjoyed much success against: since joining MLS in 2012, Montreal has played the Quakes four times and suffered no losses. Its record against San Jose stands at two wins (at Stade Saputo) and two draws (in California).
This will be a second game in five days for the Impact, which took on the New York Red Bulls in New Jersey last Saturday. Facing a team against which, conversely, it has struggled against, the Impact put together a well-balanced defensive performance in a 1-0 loss. The Bleu-blanc-noir sits fifth in the Eastern Conference.
"We're serene," said Ambroise Oyongo. "This team has a lot of character, and we're going to show as much on Wednesday night. We can go far. I trust my teammates greatly. We have to fix certain things, but if everyone is serious in its work, we'll make it."
Should he play against the Earthquakes, defender Donny Toia will make his 75th MLS appearance, a milestone that goalkeeper Evan Bush also reached last Saturday in Harrison. Bush, for his part, could play his first-ever game against the Earthquakes.
The Quakes in desperation mode
The ninth-placed team in the Western Conference, the Earthquakes suffered a tough 2-1 loss at home to Sporting Kansas City last Saturday. With five games still to play, San Jose is seven points behind the MLS Cup Playoffs spots and hasn't won in its last six games.
"We must be focused from the first second to the very last," said Hassoun Camara. "We want to learn from our recent mistakes and use those lessons going forward. San Jose also wants to qualify for the playoffs. But we have to focus on ourselves, remain defensively sharp and score some goals at home."
While Dominic Kinnear's team has scored few goals this season (28 in 29 games), their defence has held strong, conceding a mere 32 goals - only the Rapids have done better, with 27 goals conceded. However, tight games don't go the Quakes' way; their record in games decided by one goal stands at five wins and five losses. The Impact, for its part, is unbeaten in such circumstances at home (three wins).
Not only did the Earthquakes lose on Saturday, but they also saw two of their own go down to injury. Forward Quincy Amarikwa - three goals and three assists in 23 appearances - suffered a potentially serious knee injury in the early seconds of the game, while left back Jordan Stewart left the game midway through the first half with an apparent knee injury. The exact nature of both injuries has yet to be confirmed.
Following game The Impact will play its last home game of the regular season at Stade Saputo on Sunday, October 16, at 3pm against rivals Toronto FC. This game was initially scheduled for 5pm, but all tickets with the original time for this game will be valid at all Stade Saputo entrances on October 16, starting at 1:30pm. Excellent individual tickets are still available for this game on 6697f197cb48970a40fa9be22 impactmontreal.com.
In the meantime, the Bleu-blanc-noir will travel to Florida for its penultimate road game of the regular season, on Sunday, October 2, at 1pm against Orlando City SC. The Impact will finish its regular season on Sunday, October 23, at 4pm in Massachusetts against the New England Revolution.
