Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday the acquisition of American striker Mason Toye (pronounced May-Son Toy), from Minnesota United FC, in return for $150,000 in 2020 General Allocation Money, $450,000 in 2021 General Allocation Money and a 2021 MLS SuperDraft second-round pick.
"We are happy with the acquisition of Mason, who fits the profile we wanted, meaning a striker who can score and who has already demonstrated what he's capable of in this league," said Montreal Impact sporting director Olivier Renard. "This addition is also in line with our sporting philosophy of having young players with high potential in the squad."
Toye, 21, was selected seventh overall by Minnesota United in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft as a Generation Adidas player. In MLS, he scored seven goals and added four assists in 42 games, including 17 starts, and 1,604 minutes of play. He also scored a goal and played five games on loan with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (USL) in 2018. The following year, he was loaned to Forward Madison, in USL League One, and played seven games.
At the international level, the striker was selected by the U.S. national team in the U19, U20 and U23 categories. He scored a goal with the U23 team against Japan on September 9, 2019.
Toye will join the team in New Jersey and should be available for the game on Wednesday, October 7 in Columbus.
