Idaho Takes Testy Affair in Utah

West Valley City, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads tallied a late empty-netter to beat the Utah Grizzlies 4-1 Monday night at Maverik Center.

The Steelheads led 1-0 after 20 minutes despite being outshot 14-11 by Utah. They built a 3-0 lead with two more five-on-five goals in the second period.

The third period turned ugly with 113 combined penalty minutes that included three fights and six misconduct calls of one variety or another as the teams played for the third time in four nights.

Nick Tuzzolino (4) made it 3-1 with 3:47 left in regulation on his team-leading seventh shot of the night. Mitch Fadden and Logan MacMillan picked up assists on the power-play goal.

Shane Owen stopped all 21 shots that he saw in relief, including 20 in the final period.

Utah's strong penalty-kill went 7-7 in the game.

Utah hosts Bakersfield Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday with $2 soft drinks and draft beers. Friday is Maverik Night with all tickets $6 with a Maverik receipt.
