WEEK IN REVIEW

Friday, January 13

Reading 3, Elmira 2 (OT)

Sovereign Center

Josh Brittain's first goal of the season in the third period sent the game into overtime. In the extra session Elmira outshot Reading 6-1, but the Royals' Tyler Brenner converted on his team's first opportunity, notching the overtime winner at 3:01. The defeat ended the Jackals' season-high nine-game winning streak, but extended their point-earning streak to 10 games. Elmira's nine-game winning streak was its longest within one ECHL season, falling one victory shy of tying its longest winning streak since joining the ECHL, accomplished from the end of the 2008-2009 season (three games) through the start of the 2009-2010 campaign (seven games).

Saturday, January 14

Mike Devin scored the Jackals' lone goal of the game, his first tally since opening night. The loss ended Elmira's eight-game home winning streak, its longest since joining the ECHL, and its 10-game point-earning streak, its longest within one ECHL season.

The Jackals are 14-6-1-0 against divisional opponents this season, with six victories over the Titans, five against the Royals, and three over the Nailers. Elmira leads Wheeling by six points for first place in the Atlantic.

JACKALS RETURN TO JOHNSTOWN

The Jackals will play at the famed War Memorial Arena this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. for the first time since it battled the Johnstown Chiefs in their final home game on Apr. 3, 2010 before the club relocated to Greenville, S.C. Elmira defeated Johnstown in that game, 5-3.

The Jackals own a 12-5-1-0 record all-time at War Memorial Arena, with the 18 prior games occurring against the Chiefs. The Nailers started playing 10 home games in Johnstown each season beginning in 2010-2011.

PIELMEIER, STEWART PERFORMING AT HIGH LEVEL

Jackals netminders Timo Pielmeier and Brian Stewart have been very strong in net for the Jackals as of late, with each goaltender not having allowed more than three goals in a game since beginning Dec. 10.

Pielmeier went 1-0-1 this past week, taking over the club lead in goals-against average from Stewart at 2.83. Since returning from the AHL and starting in net for Elmira on Dec. 17, Pielmeier is 4-0-1-0 with a .940 save percentage and a 1.98 goals-against average. The Deggendorf, Germany native is 8-5-1-0 overall in 2011-2012.

Stewart, despite his stellar outing against South Carolina, had his personal four-game winning streak come to an end in the 2-1 loss on Saturday. The Burnaby, British Columbiaproduct is tied for fifth in the league with 14 victories. Stewart, who was last season's ECHL leader with a .927 save percentage, is ninth in that category this season at .915. Since Dec. 10, Stewart is 5-2-0-0 with a .929 save percentage and a 2.54 goals-against average. He is 14-6-0-0 overall this season.
