
Courchaine Named ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Alaska Aces goaltender Adam Courchaine has been named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 9-15, the Aces and ECHL announced on Tuesday. Courchaine led the Aces to three wins last week, as the club extended their winning streak to nine and point streak to 13 games. Courchaine and the Aces return to Sullivan Arena on Friday and Saturday when Alaska closes their 11-game home stand against the Idaho Steelheads. Tickets are on sale now. Courchaine, 22, was 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .964 in three appearances last week. Courchaine turned aside all 29 shots he faced in a 3-0 win against Stockton on Thursday and followed that up with 18 saves in a 3-1 victory against the Thunder on Friday. He ended the week with 23 saves in a 4-2 win over Stockton on Saturday.
A native of Kanata, Ontario, Courchaine is 12-1-3 with two shutouts, a league-leading 1.60 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage that also leads the league. Courchaine has appeared in 45 career ECHL games with Reading and Alaska, posting an overall record of 29-8-5 with six shutouts, a 2.17 goals-against average and a save percentage of .916.
Prior to turning pro, Courchaine appeared in 126 games over three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Ottawa, Sarnia and Erie posting a record of 50-60-8 with seven shutouts, a 3.25 goals-against average and a save percentage of .904. He has also appeared in four career American Hockey League games with Providence going 2-1-0 with a goals-against average of 2.06 and a .915 save percentage.
This is Courchaine's first Goaltender of the Week award. Last year, in his rookie season, Courchaine was named the Goaltender of the Month for February. Gerald Coleman won the Goaltender of the Week award twice in October, making this the third time an Aces netminder has won the award this season.
