Boise, Idaho, March 12, 2014 - The Idaho Stampede were defeated by the Santa Cruz Warriors 111-110 Wednesday night despite a 42-point fourth quarter from the Stampede. Idaho trailed by as much as 18 points before mounting a comeback.
Santa Cruz led 59-47 at halftime, shooting 52 percent from the field. Cameron Jones led the offense with 14 points in the half while Daniel Nwaelele and Seth Curry scored nine points each. The Stampede only shot 26 percent in the third quarter but managed to hang in the game by knocking down eight of nine free throws in the period.
The Stampede pulled within two points with 34 seconds remaining in the game thanks to a 3-pointer by Dee Bost. Idaho was forced to foul in an attempt to catch up. The Warriors' Seth Curry shot 5-6 from the free throw stripe down the stretch to help Santa Cruz seal the 111-110 victory.
Kevin Murphy led all scorers with 31 points off the bench for the Stampede. Allen Crabbe scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds while on assignment from the Portland Trail Blazers. Idaho shot 39 percent from the floor compared to 51 percent from the Warriors.
The Santa Cruz backcourt led the offense for the Warriors. Cameron Jones led with 25 points and Seth Curry posted a double-double of 21 points and 10 assists. Ognjen Kuzmic grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds while on assignment from the Golden State Warriors.
Santa Cruz (24-17) plays their next two games at home against Iowa starting March 14. The Stampede (21-19) will host the Reno Bighorns on Friday, March 14 at CenturyLink Arena.
