Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Hardy Sauter announced Wednesday that the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads have added two players to the active roster in time for its Wednesday-night game against the Bakersfield Condors.
Forward Ron Meyers and defenseman Ryan Barlock have signed amateur tryout agreements with the team. Meyers will wear jersey no. 9 and Barlock will wear jersey no. 2 for Idaho.
Meyers comes to Idaho from Alaska-Fairbanks, which just concluded its college season. He scored 14 goals in four seasons for the Nanooks, which competes in the CCHA - one of the toughest conferences in NCAA hockey. Meyers served as the team's captain as a senior.
Barlock joins the team from Curry College (MA), where he just completed a prolific college career that saw him average nearly one point per game from the blue line. The Niles, Illinois, product totaled 108 points (33 goals, 75 assists) in 109 games, including a team-leading 40 points (11 goals, 29 assists) this past season as a senior in just 27 games.
Also, Sauter announced that forward Jake Hauswirth has been reassigned by the NHL's Dallas Stars from Texas of the American Hockey League to Idaho but he will not be in the lineup Wednesday night against the Condors. Idaho (ECHL) and Texas (AHL) are the primary development affiliates of the Stars.
Hauswirth, 24, has split his season between Texas of the AHL and Rio Grande Valley of the Central Hockey League. He had one assist in 19 games with Texas to go along with 16 points (six goals, ten assists) in 24 games with Rio Grande Valley. The 6-foot-5 winger previously spent two seasons in the ECHL, accumulating 29 goals and 33 assists in 111 games with the Cincinnati Cyclones and South Carolina Stingrays from 2009-2011.
Group outings at a Steelheads game are a great way to gather friends, colleagues, or co-workers for a fun night out in downtown Boise. Ticket prices are discounted and you can get a Pepsi, Double-R Ranch Hot Dog, and bag of Tim's Cascade Chips with each ticket.
