IceRays Fight Back, Beat Odessa 3-2 in Overtime

ODESSA, TEXAS - The Corpus Christi IceRays (21-13-5) battled in a highly-offensive game to force overtime and claim a 3-2 over the Odessa Jackalopes on Thursday night from the Ector County Coliseum. The IceRays have won consecutive road games for the first time this season and have won three of their last four road games. In addition, the IceRays clinch the season series, improving to 7-0-0 against Odessa this season.

After the Jackalopes dominated the first five minutes of the opening period, the IceRays came back and created multiple chances to take a lead in the final 15 minutes before intermission. Jackalopes netminder Tanner Creel had to make numerous stops in the first period, stopping all 14 shots faced in the first period. In all, the IceRays outshot the Jackalopes 14-5 in that period. In the second, the IceRays broke the scoreless tie in the back end. After Jackalopes forward Corey Hoffman incurred a roughing call, IceRays forward Brad LeLievre slapped a hard shot from the top of the right circle at 14:55 to give the IceRays a 1-0 lead with the assist going to forward Wes Michaud. The IceRays have now converted in four-straight games on the power play after dropping 24 consecutive chances.

The Jackalopes turned up the heat heading into the third period and also broke through their scoreless contest. At 4:27, forward Razmuz Waxin-Engback rifled a shot home from the left wall off a turnover to even the score, 1-1. Much of the period continued to see-saw back and forth until at 16:38, Odessa forward Chad Guderian slipped into open ice in front of IceRays goaltender Andrew Lindgren and flipped a shot over the netminder to give the Jackalopes a 2-1 lead with Waxin-Engback and Kenny Hausinger assisting him. With time winding down, the IceRays pushed numbers forward, and at 18:00 of the period, defenseman Trevor Heuser took a hard shot from the right point that snuck through multiple screens and by Creel to even the score, 2-2, and send the game into overtime.

The IceRays went into overtime with a penalty carried over for the first 42 seconds that was killed off by the road side. The momentum shifted back to Corpus Christi, and at 2:43 of overtime forward Nathan Bryer sniped a shot from the right side home to seal the 3-2 win for the IceRays. Bryer has now scored the team's last two game-winning goals in overtime, both coming against the Jackalopes. Lindgren (15-8-3) earned the win, saving 30 of 32 shots, while Creel (2-8-2) picked up the overtime loss, turning aside 35 of 38 shots.
