Ice Miners Rally from 3-1 Deficit to Defeat Michigan

FLINT, MI - The Ice Miners played from behind most of the night, but ultimately came away with a 5-3 win Friday night at Perani Arena in Flint. Keystone extended its point streak to 6 games and now have points in 10 their last 11.

The Warriors got on the board first at the 8:42 mark of period one when Cameron Smith committed a turnover at the blue line and Tyler Groat ripped a shot past Nick Kossoff. Smith made up for his mistake by tying the game at 15:57 with a wrist shot off a rush. Michigan regained their lead when Garrison Sanipass put a rebound past Kossoff at 17:31 to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes,

In the 2nd period, Michigan extended their lead to 3-1 when Ryan Sete took a pass from Ryan Jorgensen in the slot and beat Kossoff at 1:54. Smith cut the lead back to one with a slapshot at 3:28, his 3rd goal in 2 games. In the final minute of the frame, Noah Batis ripped a powerplay goal past Ryan Wischow to tie the score at 3.

The 3-3 draw continued late into the 3rd until Vito Aluia broke the tie at 14:38, just after an Ice Miners powerplay expired. He was set up by Austin Romzek and Taylor Fernandez. Fernandez would add an empty netter to bring it to a 5-3 final. Nick Kossoff made 28 saves for his 10th win. The Ice Miners and Warriors will play again Saturday night at 7:00.
