IceMen Chase Weekend Sweep against Brampton
February 25, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Jacksonville Icemen News Release
Back on Nov. 8, the Jacksonville Icemen (20-28-4-3, 47 pts) defeated the Brampton Beast (20-25-5-3, 48 pts) in a dominating 5-0 shutout for the club's first-ever win. Today, the two teams meet again for the second and final time in the 2017-18 season, presented by Community First Credit Union, for a Sunday matinee.
Brampton enters this afternoon's game on a three-game losing streak and have lost 12 of their last 15 games. During their past three games, the Beast have only managed to score two goals and have allowed a combined nine goals. Recently acquired goalie Will King has played the last two games for Brampton, holding the Stingrays to one goal before allowing four the next night against South Carolina. Offensively, the Beast are led by Brandon Marino, whose tallied 47 points this season, including 14 goals and 33 assists.
Jacksonville is returning from South Florida after a thrilling overtime victory over the Florida Everblades last night. The last time these two teams played, captain Garet Hunt led the charge, scoring once and recording a pair of assists. Now the 30-year-old veteran is one goal shy of matching his single-season goal record of 14 with the Stockton Thunder in 2013-14. This Icemen squad will look a bit different from early November, as there are 11 players on the current roster who did not participate in the first game.
These two teams match up well, as both are next to each other in the league standings and separated by just one point. Jacksonville is looking for its first win in the last game of a back-to-back-to-back sequence this season. Additionally, the Icemen can tie their best winning streak with a victory this afternoon.
