Brampton Beast News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA - The Jacksonville Icemen scored a late third period goal to tie the game and scored the game-winner in overtime to take home a 4-3 victory over the Brampton Beast from Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon.
Cody Donaghey led the charge on offense for Brampton with a goal and an assist, while defensemen Tyson Wilson and Reggie Traccitto also scored for the Beast.
After an evenly-played opening frame, it was the Icemen who carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. After a flurry of fantastic saves in tight by Beast starting goaltender Daniel Spence, Elgin Pearce netted the rebound to give the hometown squad a 1-0 lead at 12:37.
It didn't take the Beast long to find a goal early in the second period. The Beast were enjoying a temporary 6-on-5 advantage on a delayed penalty call when Tyson Wilson capitalized on a pretty passing play for his second goal of the season at 1:51.
The Icemen pulled ahead later in the second period on Pearce's second of the game at 11:12, but the Beast got it back just over a minute later to tie the game again.
The Beast were moving the puck well in the offensive zone and Donaghey lit the lamp on a perfect goalmouth feed from Brandon Marino in front of the goal for his sixth goal of the campaign at 12:46.
Early in the third period, the Beast's tenacity paid off as they earned their first lead of the game. Traccitto accepted a pass at the offensive zone blue line and blasted a hard shot beyond Icemen starter Austin Lotz, putting the Beast ahead 3-2 just 1:13 into the third period.
The Beast were in control all game and outshot their opponents 33-24, but the Icemen, buoyed by a strong Sunday afternoon crowd of 6,987 fans, found a way to tie the game late in the third period as Cody Fowlie pounced on a rebound in front of Spence with 52 seconds remaining to tie the game at 3-3.
Jacksonville completed the late-game comeback at the 2:49 mark of overtime as Christopher Dienes netted the game-winning goal.
NOTES: Molson Three Stars: 3) Lichtenwald (JAX) 2) Pearce (JAX) 1) Dienes (JAX). The Beast finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. This afternoon's game was the last of a three-game road trip. Brampton will now return home to the Powerade Centre for their next game on Tuesday, February 27 as they host the Worcester Railers at 7:15PM.
