Swamp Rabbits Make Annual Trip to Toledo to Face Walleye
February 25, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
RABBITS TAILS
The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (20-30-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, continue their road trip and are set to finish a three-in-three tonight at 5:15 p.m. The Swamp Rabbits will play their fourth game of the week at the Huntington Center, squaring off with the Toledo Walleye (36-14-2-2) for the first and only time this season. Greenville has traveled to Toledo in each of the last three seasons with the Walleye taking the last two meetings between the clubs. The Walleye topped the Atlanta Gladiators on Friday and Saturday night to keep pace with Fort Wayne. Greenville looks to halt a nine game slide after earning a point in overtime against the Komets last night.
MAKING A LONG SHOT COUNT
Defenseman Sean Flanagan tallied his second goal of the season last night and first of his career on the power play with a laser from the point. The rookie blue liner is second among the Swamp Rabbits defense with 19 points (2G, 17A). The Minnesota State University alum has notched four points (1G, 3A) in the last five games.
GOALS FOR GARRET
Rookie forward Garret Clemment has tallied a goal in two of the last three games. The winger has fired four goals in 10 games since signing with the team from the Knoxville Ice Bears. In his short time, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire alum already ranks fourth among Greenville's active rookies in goal scoring. The Mosinee, Wisconsin native has already tied his goal scoring output in 13 games with Knoxville in his first pro action this year.
SPREADING IT OUT
Forward Erik Bradford leads Toledo's scoring charge with 42 points (14G, 28A) in 49 games. Not one of the Walleye skaters are among the leagues top-40 scorers in the ECHL but the team has a good spread of offense. The top 12 scorers for the Walleye have reached at least 20 points this season, a feat only eight other teams this season. Toledo has also not had a skater reach 20 goals yet this season despite having a top-10 scoring offense.
DOUBLED UP
Forward Austin McKay picked up a pair of assists last night earning his first multi-point outing of the season. McKay has tallied six points (3G, 3A) in the last six games after missing seven straight contests due to injury. The 6-foot-5 center from Toronto, Ontario has tallied 18 points this season and is fifth on the Swamp Rabbits active roster with nine goals. McKay will play his 100th pro game tonight.
LONG TIME, NO SEE
With goaltender Matej Machovsky recalled to Grand Rapids, netminder Pat Nagle has needed to stand in as the main starter in Toledo. The seventh-year pro season has faced Greenville 14 times in his career but has not started against the Swamp Rabbits since 2014. Nagle earned a 5-5-0 record, 2.76 goals against average, and .912 save percentage against Greenville in his career. The Ferris State University alum has played both games for Toledo this weekend helping him to seven straight victories in net. His counterpart Angus Redmond has not yet suited up for the Walleye since being reassigned by Anaheim from the Utah Grizzlies.
CARROT BITES
The Swamp Rabbits are 14-4-1 against the Walleye in franchise history. Greenville's last win over Toledo came on Jan. 17, 2015.
Toledo is 11-2-0-1 in the last 15 games, suffering losses to Brampton and Quad City last week.
Greenville added Kent Nusbaum as an emergency back-up goaltender today to fill in for Greg Dodds who left last night's contest with an injury.
Shane Walsh played his 100th game last night.
Since joining the Walleye, veteran forward Mike Embach has tallied 10 points (3G, 7A) in 10 games.
