IceGators Assigned Two from Houston

Lafayette, LA – Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Todd Gordon today announced the team has been assigned defenseman Max Fortunus and left wing Mark Rooneem from the Houston Aeros. Both players will attend IceGators training camp, beginning Saturday, October 9, 2004.

Max Fortunus spent most of his rookie season in 2003-04 with the IceGators. The 21 year-old defenseman played in 64 games, notching 3 goals and 15 assists for 18 points. He also added one goal and one assist in 4 playoff games with Louisiana. Fortunus' speed and skill on the ice made him a fan favorite, earning him awards for "Best Defensive Player" and Unsung Hero". Fortunus also saw some time in the AHL playing 12 regular season games and one post season contest for the Houston Aeros, tallying two assists.

"Max is one of the premier defensemen in the ECHL," said Gordon. "He is going to be a big contributor on the power play, penalty kill and in general, anytime he touches the ice."

Mark Rooneem is a 6'2", 195 lb. rookie from Hinton, Alberta. The 21 year old left wing was the Los Angeles King's 4th round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 115th player taken overall. Rooneem spent his last five seasons in the WHL, tallying 134 points (62-72-134) in 304 games with Kamloops and Calgary. Last season, was voted "Most Sportsmanlike Player" for the Calgary Hitmen.

"Mark Rooneem will bring a lot of energy to our front line," said Gordon. "I like the aggressive way he approaches the game and expect him to create a buzz with his high-energy style."
