Bullies Put Amateur Scouts Into Play
October 4, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. â The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the New York Islanders, have named Nelson White Atlantic Amateur Scout and Darcy Walsh Ontario Amateur Scout. White and Walsh become the newest members to the hockey operations department.
White previously scouted for the Bullies along with the former New Orleans Brass of the ECHL and the Mississauga Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League. The St. John's, NF native worked in the front office of the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL and as a coordinator for Hockey Canada's World Junior and Under-18 progams, winning a Bronze medal as part of Canada's 2000 World Junior team. In 2001, White served as Manager of Team Services and Communications with the former Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League and was apart of another winning organization as the Flames captured the Calder Cup. With a strong background in amateur hockey in Newfoundland through his work for the Newfoundland Provincial Under-16 team, White will be responsible for the Bullies scouting efforts in the Canadian maritimes.
"We are extremely fortunate to land someone with the caliber and experience of Nelson White," said Bullies Vice President and General Manager Dan Belisle. "Recruitment is the top priority in today's ECHL and the teams that contend year after year are the ones who find those âdiamonds in the rough'. Nelson produced more than his fair share of those types of players while scouting for the Brass and I'm confidant he will bring similar players to Atlantic City."
Walsh, 30, is a native of Mississaugua, ON and has scouted for several major junior teams in Ontario over the years. Currently coaching minor hockey in the Greater Toronto Hockey League, Walsh will be assigned to cover both tier-1 and tier-II juniors throughout Ontario. He is a former teammate of Bullies Head Coach Matt Thomas.
"I've known Darcy for years and nobody knows more about amateur hockey in Ontario than this gentleman," said Thomas. "His experience and commitment will provide us with a highly valuable tool."
White and Walsh will also scout AHL and Canadian University games in addition to their junior duties.
The Bullies and Vineland Ice Arena will be hosting an intra-squad scrimmage at 6:30PM on Saturday, October 9. Tickets for this event are only $6 and can be purchased by calling a Bullies Customer Service Representative at (609) 348-7825, or by calling the Vineland Ice Arena at (856) 691-2222. Full season ticket holders will receive admission free of charge.
