IceDogs Torch Spitfires for Fourth Straight Win

November 5, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs defeated the Windsor Spitfires 5-4 Thursday night, for their fourth straight victory, outshooting the visiting team 29-24 in the process.

The IceDogs finished the first period strong, after going down 2-0 in the early goings of the game, with two goals of their own. Zach Wilkie potted his first of the year, when a seeing eye point shot found its way through a pile of bodies in front of the net to get the team back within one. Josh Ho-Sang would go on to pot his sixth of the year on a snipe from the slot with just nine seconds to go in the period, bringing the team into the first intermission all tied up. The shots on goal were 9-5 in the IceDogs favour after the frame.

The second period was hard fought by both teams, but the IceDogs were really pushing in order to get the lead against a strong Windsor team. With just 2:22 left in the period Graham Knott's hard forechecking forced the Spitfires goaltender Michael Giugovaz to turn the puck over behind the net, with Knott passing it out in front to a wide open Anthony DiFruscia who buried it into the empty cage and hive the home side a 3-2 lead. The Dogs had the momentum in their favour heading into the third. The shots on goal in the period favoured the IceDogs, 7-6.

The IceDogs would continue to stay hot in the third period as they potted two goals just 12 seconds apart in the midst of the third period. Vince Dunn wired home a rocket from the point, right into the top corner, for his fifth goal of the season, to put the team up by two goals. Kyle Langdon would get on the board just moments later as he buried a centering pass, and tallied the first goal of his OHL career. The Spitfires would end up getting two late goals to bring the game within one, but that would be as close as they got as the IceDogs defence would come up with some big shot blocks late to secure their fourth straight in the win column. The shots on goal in the third period were even at 13 apiece for a final tally of 29-24 for the home side. Graham Knott and Vince Dunn took home the games' first and second stars respectively.

The IceDogs will be back at home on Saturday, November 7th at 7:00 PM to face the Peterborough Petes in their Remembrance game. Tickets for this game and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
