February 18, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs completed a huge comeback victory over the Brampton Battalion in front of 2,842 fans at the Gatorade Garden City Complex Thursday night.
Brampton was awarded an early power play as Reggie Traccitto received a minor penalty for delay of game. Sean Jones capitalized on the advantage, with Peroff and Hodgson picking up the assists.
Jones followed up shortly after with his second goal of the night to give the Battalion an early 2-0 lead. Hodgson also notched a helper on the play, giving him 2 assists on the night.
The IceDogs came back towards the end of the first when Johnson Andrews scored a beautiful breakaway goal by going five-hole on Battalion goaltender Patrick Killeen off a nice stretch pass from Alex Friesen.
The Dogs would get a few more quality scoring chances in the dying minutes of the period, but Killeen made some unbelievable saves to provide his team with a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.
The second period was scoreless until the 14:07 mark, when Cody Hodgson tipped one in past Visentin to pick up his third point of the night and give the Battalion a 3-1 lead.
The IceDogs were awarded a 5-on-3 power play late in the second, and Ryan Strome was able to capitalize on a Freddie Hamilton rebound to decrease Brampton's lead to 3-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Niagara scored the first marker of the third at the 12:20 mark as Andrew Agozzino sniped one past Killeen to tie the game 3-3.
Agozzino proved to his team that the game was a must win by notching his second goal of the game (33rd of the season) on a bar-down shot to give the Dogs a late 4-3 lead.
The Dogs would hold onto their 4-3 lead to pick up a huge comeback win over the Battalion. In other OHL news, the Oshawa Generals were defeated 6-4 by the Barrie Colts tonight, giving the IceDogs a 2 point lead on the 8th place playoff spot.
The IceDogs will return to action tomorrow as they visit their Central Division rivals, the Sudbury Wolves, at 7:30 p.m., before facing the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds Saturday, February 20, also with a 7:30 start time.
