Saginaw Spirit News Release
(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit suffered a 3-1 loss Thursday night to the Owen Sound Attack, but the team still holds onto the sixth seed in the OHL Western Conference with 62 points and a record of 28-23-4-2. The Spirit are one point back of the fifth place Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and one point ahead of the Erie Otters, both of whom were idle tonight. Tadeas Galansky posted 43 saves to earn the game's first star honors, and a goal from Josh Shalla saw the top NHL prospect hit the thirty-goal plateau on the season.
The Attack opened scoring with two consecutive goals in the first period, both courtesy NHL Florida Panthers prospect Garrett Wilson. Wilson scored his thirtieth of the season at 9:49 in the first, assisted by center Steven Shipley and defenseman Geoffrey Schemitsch. Wilson tallied his second of the evening at the 12:00 minute mark, with the assists courtesy Shipley and winger Bobby Mignardi.
The Spirit answered in the second period, with winger Josh Shalla notching his thirtieth of the season 1:29 into the frame. Centers Barry Sanderson and Vince Trocheck assisted on the goal. The Spirit's counter attack was repelled later in the period when defenseman Milan Doczy notched a goal at 10:15 to put Owen Sound up 3-1. Winger Grant McGee and center Marcus Carroll earned the assists. Despite the concerted Spirit effort for the following 30:00 minutes, the team was unable to reduce the deficit. The Attack took home the win and the two points with the 3-1 victory.
Spirit netminder Tadeas Galansky earned the game's first star honors with 43 saves, while Attack goalie Scott Stajcer (NHL New York Rangers) posted 23 saves.
