IceDogs Fall to Petes 5-4 in OT

March 19, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs lost a tight battle with the Peterborough Petes Saturday night by a score of 5-4 in overtime.

The IceDogs came out with a maximum effort Saturday night, looking to keep their momentum going heading into the playoffs. Anthony DiFruscia got the ball rolling in the early goings of the game when he put home a rebound on an IceDogs' power play. The Petes would get one back before the frame ended to keep things tight. The shots on goal favoured the Dogs in the period, 9-8.

The Petes would get the best of the Dogs in the second period despite the Dogs outshooting the opposition 13-7. Peterborough managed to get two goals on the board to take a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame.

The IceDogs wouldn't back down easy as they battled back from two separate two goal deficits in the third period and gave everything they had. Stephen Harper, Pavel Jenys and Josh Ho-Sang got the third period goals for the Dogs, all in which resulted from winning hard fought puck battles. The Dogs would bring the contest to overtime but fell just short to the Petes after coming close on a few chances of their own.

The Dogs will head off to Mississauga on Sunday to play the Steelheads with a 2:00PM start, in an important game that could determine the teams' home ice fate. The IceDogs will be back at home for the first round of the playoffs coming up so be sure to visit any IceDogs' ticketing locations to make sure you get your playoff seats as they will go fast.
