Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs skated to a 4-2 win Thursday night, with a strong effort, outshooting the Mississauaga Steelheads 44-18 in the process.
The IceDogs responded to adversity well in the first period bouncing back after going down 2-0 in the early going to Mississauga. The bounce back would start with a shorthanded goal from Mikkel Aagaard for his first tally of the year. Brendan Perlini went on to rip home a heavy wrist shot, short side, just over a minute later on the powerplay to knot things up at 2-2. The IceDogs would not stop there as the captain, Anthony DiFruscia would give the Dogs the lead shortly after, banging home a rebound off an initial shot from Graham Knott to make it 3-2. The IceDogs really showed their domination after going down early, outshooting the Steelheads 17-5 in the period.
The goaltenders were the story in the second period as none of the 24 total shots managed to find the twine. The IceDogs controlled the play and managed to outshoot the Steelheads, 15-9 in the frame. Stephen Dhillon provided one of the highlights of the period when he robbed a Steelheads shooter from the slot with a quick flash of the leather, to keep the home squad up by one heading into the third.
The Dogs came out strong once again in the third, hemming the Steelheads in their end for a majority of the period, and keeping them off the shot clock. After Perlini and Ho-Sang were both inches away from giving the IceDogs a two goal lead, with great chances in close, Josh Ho-Sang managed to get the Dogs' second powerplay marker of the game with just over three minutes left in the game to all but put away the Steelheads chances of a comeback. That would ultimately prove to be it for scoring as the IceDogs would take home the 4-2 win.
The three stars of the game all went to the IceDogs, as Perlini, Ho-Sang, and DiFruscia took home the honours. Ho-Sang and Perlini each finished with a goal and an assist on the night, while DiFruscia would have the eventual game winner.
The IceDogs are right back in action at the Meridian Centre tomorrow night when they play host to the Sarnia Sting. Puck drop is at 7:00 PM and tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
