Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Pensacola Ice Flyers set a new SPHL record with their 17th straight game picking up at least one point with a 5-2 win over the Louisiana IceGators. The win also gave Pensacola the weekend sweep over Louisiana and stretched their lead in the standings to eight points.

The entertainment started right off the opening faceoff as Joe Bueltel and former Ice Flyer Ron Cramer dropped the gloves just one second into the game. Bueltel came out the victor in the scrap. Pensacola's Corey Banfield continued his hot streak as he gave the Ice Flyers the 1-0 lead 7:07 into the first. Podge Turnbull and Joe Caveney had the assists. For Banfield, this was his ninth straight game with at least one goal.

Pensacola didn't waste any time in the second period as Brett Lutes put the pick five hole on Louisiana's Matt Zenzola just 58 seconds into the middle period. Tyler Amburgey and John Dunbar assisted on the goal. Banfield picked up his second goal of the game with a power play goal 7:50 into the second. Banfield one-timed a pass from Turnbull that went across the crease. Amburgey earned his second assist of the night on the goal.

Louisiana's attempt to claw their way back into the game was aided by a goal from Matt Robertson just 1:06 in but about five and half minutes later, Adam Pawlick reestablished the three-goal lead for Pensacola. Mitchell Good and Keegan Flaherty had the helpers. Good got his first goal since rejoining the Ice Flyers with a power play goal 9:34 into the third. Ryan Salvis and Lutes had the assists. Louisiana's Adam Stuart scored with 6.1 seconds remaining but the Ice Flyers still managed to win the game 5-2.

MacKinnon stopped 27 of the Gators' 29 shots and his record now stands at 18-1-3.

The Ice Flyers' next game is Thursday, Mar. 13 as Pensacola makes their only trip to Columbus, Georgia of the regular season to take on the Columbus Cottonmouths. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central Time. The Ice Flyers return to the Hangar for their final regular season home games when they host the Peoria Rivermen on Friday, Mar. 14 and Saturday, Mar. 15.
