Rivermen Strengthen Roster as Lineup Shifts on Saturday

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced a handful of roster moves Saturday afternoon, one day after the Rivermen clinched their first-ever berth in the SPHL's President's Cup playoffs. Rookie goaltender Kevin Carr has agreed to a full-season contract, while center Chris Greene has been returned on loan from the Quad City Mallards (Central Hockey League). In addition, winger Justin Alonzo and netminder Brian Hamilton have each been waived.
Carr, 24, is expected to make his professional debut this weekend. Earlier this season, he completed a four-year career at Buffalo State College, where the Unionville, Ontario native posted a 2.92 goals against average and a .920 save percentage over 15 appearances. Overall, Carr went 45-47-12 with a 2.67 goals against average and a .921 saves rate in 104 career games at Buffalo State. The 6'2, 175-pound goaltender also earned merits such as All-SUNYAC First Team (2010-11), All-SUNYAC Second Team (2011-12, 2012-13) and the Skidmore Invitational Tournament MVP (2012-13).
Greene, 28, was initially acquired on Feb. 18 in a trade with the Fayetteville FireAntz for defenseman Kory Helowka. However, the Massena, New York native was called-up to CHL Quad City shortly after and never made it to Peoria. Instead, Greene played eight games with the Mallards and recorded two goals and two assists.
Prior to the trade, the 6'2, 190-pound forward played 35 games for Fayetteville this season and collected 20 points (7g, 13a) and 26 penalty minutes. He also appeared in three games for the Evansville Icemen (ECHL), where he produced one assist. Last season, Greene spent 49 games with the Denver Cutthroats (Central Hockey League) and recorded 11 points (6g, 5a) and 40 penalty minutes.
Alonzo, 25, was obtained on Feb. 24 in a trade with the Pensacola Ice Flyers in a three-player deal for Peoria's Tyler Amburgey. In just four games with the Rivermen, Alonzo recorded just four penalty minutes and a minus-one rating. In addition, the San Jose, California native played 36 games for the Ice Flyers this season and notched 21 points (6g, 15a) with 28 penalty minutes. Last year, he kicked off his professional career with nine games for Pensacola following a four-year career at Castleton State College in Castleton, Vermont.
Hamilton, 41, serves as Peoria's goaltending coach and has filled in as an emergency backup on several occasions this season. As per league rules, Hamilton was signed to a full-season contract on Feb. 28, but did not make an appearance between the pipes. A native of Chicago, Hamilton served as a backup netminder for the Rivermen during their IHL, ECHL and AHL eras. He made 10 appearances in the ECHL from 1996 to 2000.
