Mississippi Surge News Release
Biloxi, MS - Pushing, shoving, and shooting was the story of this one, as Peoria wins in the second of a three game weekend versus the Surge. Mathieu Dugas picked up the loss in his second straight start against the Rivermen, saving 35 of 39 shots.
Peoria slapped a season high 22 shots at Surge net minder Mathieu Dugas in the opening frame. Adam Hartley struck first for the Rivermen, netting his fifth goal of the year.
Mississippi's penalty kill shined, stopping Peoria in all five of their power plays, including a five on three Peoria advantage. The Surge went 1-4 on the power play as Bill Baker scored his sixth goal of the year off of a snipe by Evan Zych from Peoria's blue line.
Capping off an entertaining opening period, Steve Morra scored his tenth goal of the year giving Peoria a 2-1 lead just before the first intermission. Morra, would end his sixth multi-point game with 2 assists. In the second period, Ben Oskroba scored his first goal in the SPHL, giving the Rivermen a 3-1 lead, and late in the third, Matt Viola effectively ended the game with his fourth goal in as many games.
In his return from Wheeling, longtime Surge Defenseman Nicholas Kuqali joined the Surge with Luke Lynes, who signed earlier in the day. Despite the loss, the Surge still remain a solid eight points ahead of Fayetteville, and are still poised to clinch the final playoff spot.
Mississippi will play Peoria tomorrow afternoon for the final game of the weekend triple header.
