Cottonmouths Shut out Thunder for 2nd Straight Night

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Bloomington Thunder were shut out for the second straight night in a 4-0 loss to the Columbus Cottonmouths on Saturday night at Columbus Civic Center.

The Cottonmouths scored first as Neilsson Arcibal collected his third goal of the weekend on a top shelf wrist shot on the run from the top of the right circle just 2:32 into the game. The Snakes pushed the lead to 2-0 on a power play with 6:54 showing on the first period when Preston Shupe put in a rebound at the right post from a close range attack by Steve Mele also assisted by Arcibal. Columbus went into the first intermission leading 3-0 after Tom Maldonado scurried free and scored a shorthanded breakaway with 48.8 seconds remaining.

Columbus increased the lead to 4-0 just 1:01 into the second period when Dan Bremner slapped home a centering pass from behind the net to the top of the crease.

Andrew Loewen collected his second shutout while B.J. O'Brien suffered the loss with each making 27 saves. On power plays, Columbus was 1-for-6 while the Thunder were 0-for-5.

The Thunder return to U.S. Cellular Coliseum for a three-game weekend series against the Huntsville Havoc with face-offs scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3:05 p.m. Sunday.
