Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach Ice Dogs Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Kevin Kaminski announced today that the Ice Dogs have signed goaltender Danielle Dubé to a one-year deal. Dubé becomes the first female professional athlete in franchise history. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Dubé was the West Coast Hockey League's first female professional athlete when she signed with the Bakersfield Fog during the league's inaugural 1995-96 season.

"We are always looking for top talent and Danielle represents that," said Kaminski. "She's a good goaltender."

The 26-year old Dubé comes to the Ice Dogs after spending two years training with the Canadian National Team until the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The Vancouver, British Columbia, native was a member of the Gold Medal team at the 1997 World Championship in Kitchener, Ontario, posting a 94.1 save percentage in two games. At 5-foot-8, 145-pounds, she helped Team Canada win gold medals at the 1996 inaugural 3-Nations' Cup (Ottawa, Ontario) as well as both Pacific Rim tournaments in 1995 (San Jose, Calif.) and 1996 (Richmond, BC). Dubé also was a Team Canada member at the 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio.

Dubé was the number-one ranked female goaltender in Canada from 1996 to 1997 while playing for the Central Texas Stampede of the Western Professional Hockey League.
