Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Jamie O'Leary and Jeff Marshall each had four-point nights to help the Ice Dogs (17-32-3) defeat the Fresno Falcons 6-5 Sunday at Long Beach Arena. The loss stops the Falcons nine-game consecutive road wins, two shy of the WCHL record held by the now-defunct Tacoma Sabercats who won 11 straight in 1999-2000.

Fresno (28-19-5) built a 2-0 lead, but the Ice Dogs rallied with four unanswered goals in the second period. O'Leary scored his first of the night at 1:41 on a rebound in front of the net. Less than two minutes later O'Leary tied the game by beating Terry Friesen glove-side at 3:28. Chris Peyton gave Long Beach the lead with a tip-in goal at 14:23. Marshall had an assist on all three scores. Denis Ladouceur scored the fourth goal of the period for Long Beach at 15:56. It was the fourth time the Ice Dogs have scored four times in a period this season, the last on Dec. 4 at Anchorage.

Marshall resumed the scoring assault with the club's fifth straight goal on his blast from outside the right face-off circle at 11:55 in the third period. Following a Fresno goal by Jordan Landry, Tyler Willis regained the Ice Dogs' three-goal lead, and eventually the game-winner at 16:22 receiving a centering pass from Mike Barrie. Marshall collected his final two points assisting on both third-period goals.

The Falcons never gave up and made the last minutes of the game intense by scoring goals at 18:06 and 19:02, but the defending Taylor Cup champions couldn't overcome the giant deficit inflicted by the Dogs.

Mike Buzak (8-19-3) stopped 26 shots, including 14 in the third period, making the seventh straight game Long Beach has been outshot. The 11 combined goals marked the fifth time the Ice Dogs have been in a double-digit scoring game.
