Bakersfield Condors News Release

San Diego, Calif. – Jamie Cooke scored four goals as the Bakersfield Condors won their fourth straight to move back into a tie for second place in the West Coast Hockey League on Sunday night. They defeated the San Diego Gulls 6-2 at the San Diego Sports Arena.

San Diego took the lead on an early power play in the first period. Mark Pederson took his own rebound and lifted it past goaltender Kevin St. Pierre for his 34th of the season. Bakersfield came storming back, however, later in the opening frame. Jeff Goldie and Nate Anderson scored goals 36 seconds apart to tie the game up and take the lead. Anderson has a point in four straight games, and is third among all rookies in goals and points. Goldie's tally made him the fourth Condor to reach the 20-goal plateau this season.

Jamie Cooke took over in the second period. He banged home a centering feed by Paul Willett for his 22nd of the season at 8:59 to make the score 3-1. Just 40 seconds later, the Gulls pulled back within a goal with Sylvain Deschatelets' 17th of the year, but bounced right back. Cooke added two more in the stanza, rifling a wrist shot over goaltender Cris Classen, and angling home another Willett feed on an odd-man rush to make it 5-2 and complete the hat trick.

The Condors held the lead masterfully in the third period, continuing to pressure and surpassing 40 shots on goal for the third straight game, and fifth in the last six. Cooke continued his hot night by tallying his fourth of the night with less than three minutes remaining to make the final score 6-2. Willett picked up his fourth assist of the game as well. St. Pierre stopped 33 shots for his franchise record 28th victory of the season.

Bakersfield moved into a tie with the Gulls for second place with the win, and improved to 6-5-2 on the season series against San Diego. In other action, Long Beach defeated Fresno by a score of 6-5.

The Condors stay on the road for the next three, starting on Wednesday night at 7:00pm in Long Beach. They return home for Student ID Night on March 4th, sponsored by WB 12 and KISS 96.5. All college, high school and junior high students can receive lower level tickets for just $1.
