Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Goaltender Beau Fritz stopped 33 of 35 shots for his first career victory as the Condors swept a two game homestand against Long Beach with a 5-2 win in front of 6,331 fans at Centennial Garden on Saturday night.
Danielle Dube started for Long Beach in goal, and she and Fritz dueled in the first period. Neither goalie was beaten, and they combined to make 25 saves. It was an uneventful period other than that, as the teams headed to the dressing room scoreless.
Early in the second frame the Condors got on the board. Just 14 seconds in, Nate Anderson tipped home a rebound for his 11th goal of the season. Quinn Fair made a nice single-effort for his second of the season. He skated in from the left point, around two defenders, and tucked home the tally for the 2-0 lead. Dube had faced 33 shots through 40 minutes, while Fritz had turned aside 22.
Less than a minute into the third period the Condors extended the lead, as J.J. Wrobel slipped home his seventh of the year to make it 3-0. Fritz finally surrendered his first goal of the game just a couple minutes later off a goalmouth scramble. A moment after back-to-back great stops by the rookie goalie later in the period, Bakersfield added two more. Guy Dupuis scored his first goal of the season on a slap shot from the right wing, while Paul Rosebush banged home his 13th of the campaign on an odd-man rush. Long Beach added one more to bring the score to 5-2, and that was the final. The final shots were 45-35 in favor of the Condors, as they won their fifth straight against the Ice Dogs.
Bakersfield inched within striking distance of second place, as San Diego lost 4-3 to Fresno on home ice tonight. Meanwhile, Idaho defeated Anchorage 2-1 in other WCHL action.
The Condors head down to San Diego on Sunday, for a 5:00pm start at the San Diego Sports Arena. Their next three games will be on the road after that, with trips to Long Beach on Wednesday and Anchorage next weekend. There will be a public skate on Sunday while the team is in San Diego, from 1:00-3:00pm. Admission is just $7, with skate rental available for an additional $3. They return home on Tuesday, March 4th, for another Student ID Night, sponsored by WB 12 and KISS 96.5. All college, high school and junior high students can receive lower level tickets for just $1, based on availability.
