Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The Long Beach Ice Dogs scored three times late in the third period to overcome a 3-2 deficit and hand the Condors a 5-3 loss in front of 3,587 fans at Centennial Garden on Wednesday night.
Long Beach opened the scoring when Tomas Kapusta scored on the teams' first shot of the game. Later in the first, the Condors got the equalizer on the power play, when Jeff Goldie scored his fourth of the season, and his third on the power play to make it 1-1. The first period shots on goal were 17-8 in favor of Bakersfield.
The Condors took the lead early in the second, when Christian Skoryna netted his second of the season just 49 seconds in to make it 2-1. Condors netminder Fredrik Jensen, in his second start of the season, kept the Ice Dogs off the board during the middle frame, taking the lead into the third.
Long Beach turned on the offense in the third period, scoring four times on 11 shots. Rookie Jeff Marshall scored the first goal of his pro career at 8:45 to tie the game at 2-2. Skoryna later slipped home a rebound to regain the lead at 11:11. The game stayed 3-2 until the final 1:21, when Yevgeniy Kabanets lifted a backhander past Jensen to tie the game at 3-3. Then, seconds after Skoryna rang a potential go-ahead goal off the post, Jeff Ewasko skated into the Condors zone and fired one to the top shelf to make it 4-3 Ice Dogs with just 48 seconds left in the game. Chris Kenady added an empty-net goal to make the final score 5-3.
