Reading Royals News Release

READING, PA–The 2002-03 Reading Royals Professional Hockey Club's Skate & Educate program, sponsored by CTCE Federal Credit Union, reigns as another success for the Royals' sophomore season. During the last week, the Royals have distributed approximately 20,000 Skate & Educate certificates to more than 80 schools within the Berks, Carbon Lehigh and Montgomery County Intermediate Units.

"The Royals organization is committed to our community and our children," said Royals General Manager Ray Delia. "We are delighted the Reading Royals can salute each of the 20,000 outstanding students who will be receiving this award. Each school has meticulously chosen their individual award category and their distribution process to encourage and applaud their students."

The Skate & Educate program is a free awards program for area schools that recognizes students for outstanding performance in the classroom. Each school determines the award category and how they want to award the voucher certificates, either at a school, grade or classroom level. The program offers a free Royals home hockey ticket to each student in grades 1-8 in the 2002-03 school year's first marking period who:

- Earned honor roll status, or
- Had perfect attendance, or
- Exemplified good citizenship, or
- Reached an established reading goal, or
- Other (as suggested by teacher or principal).

This year, the Skate & Educate program has extended to three additional counties -- Carbon, Lehigh and Montgomery. Outstanding schools this year include St. Catherine of Siena School with 350 students for perfect attendance; Royersford Elementary School with 600 students for reaching an established reading goal; Northern Lehigh Middle School with 225 Honor Roll students; and Lincoln Park School with 155 for good citizenship.
