Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
KNOXVILLE, TN (December 16, 2011) - The Knoxville Ice Bears returned to home ice at the Civic Coliseum tonight for the first time in three weeks. They continued to ride their undefeated home record in front of an energized crowd of 3146 with a 4-1 drubbing of the Huntsville Havoc.
The fireworks erupted to start the game. Just 2 seconds into the first period, Dan Bremner tangled with recently re-signed Havoc pugilist Dennis Sicard for a lengthy bout. Then at the 10 second mark, Mike Towns and Gabriel Boutin-Gagnon squared off for the second undercard. David Segal rang the bell again at the 13 second mark, when he overwhelmed Huntsville's Sam Cannata.
The Ice Bears dominated Huntsville and notched their first goal at 9:46; Towns was tied up with Huntsville's Greg Brown and goalie Corey Milan to the right of the net while Ricky Helmbrecht cradled a pass from Emery Olauson and fired it in for a 1-0 lead.
Less than two minutes later, the Ice Bears doubled their lead when Eric Slais fired a shot past Milan from the left faceoff circle. The goal was assisted by Olauson and SPHL scoring leader Kevin Swider.
Knoxville scored their third unanswered goal just 2:23 into the second period. Eric Satim ripped a shot past Milan to boost the score to 3-0. Steve Wiedler and new addition Mike Carpenter were credited with assists. After Satim's goal, Huntsville replaced Milan with newly acquired Matt Hache goaltender.
Knoxville continued the onslaught with Olauson's 17th goal of the season at 16:14 into the second period as the Ice Bears moved to a 4-0 lead. The final Ice Bear's goal was assisted by Swider and Slais.
Huntsville got on the scoreboard early in the third period. Bremner was penalized for an elbow that flipped Sicard on his back. Huntsville's Glenn Detulleo scored the power play goal to make the final 4-1 score.
The Ice Bears return to the Coliseum tomorrow their "Puck Cancer" night. Join the Ice Bears as they continue the fight with American Cancer Society in defeating this deadly disease. Fans will enjoy Guaranteed Fight Night, specialty jersey auction and a post-game party at Latitude 35 - Puck drops at 7:30 pm.
