Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Augusta, GA -- The Mississippi RiverKings fell to the Augusta Riverhawks 3-2 on Friday night in front of 1,237 at the James Brown Arena

The RiverKings got on the board early as Cameron Sault's pass bounced off of Tibor Varga's skate just under three minutes into the game to give the 'Kings the 1-0 lead.

But after Sault's penalty for slashing midway through the first, the Riverhawks capitalized as Matt Auffrey crossed into the slot and put a shot top shelf over David Wilson to tie the game at one apiece.

The RiverKings would retake the lead in the second period, as Ken Selby buried home his own rebound off a Darrell Stoddard pass to put the 'Kings up 2-1.

But another penalty would do in the visitors. After Leland Fidler's tripping penalty, Jim Gehring ripped a shot past Wilson to knot it all up at two heading into the final frame.

Just 4:36 into the third period, Dustin Cloutier slipped the puck to the back of the net to put the Riverhawks ahead to stay.

The 'Kings had an opportunity at the end of the game to send it to overtime. Two bad penalties by the Riverhawks put the RiverKings on a 39 second five on three man advantage and then a power play for the remainder of the game. But the 'Kings were held scoreless on the power play as the visitors lost their sixth straight.

The loss drops David Wilson to 5-3-1 on the season after turning aside 24 of 27 shots against. Jon Olthuis stopped 33 of 35 to improve to 4-1-0.
