Waterloo Bucks News Release
DULUTH, Minn. - The Waterloo Bucks (21-22/3-4) saw their brief two-game win streak come to a close after the Duluth Huskies (23-10/3-4) handed them a 3-2 walk-off loss Tuesday night at Wade Stadium. Going 0-3 in his previous at-bats, Duluth's Alex Greene (West Florida) plated the game-winning run on a bases-loaded single to right field.
Brian Polowy (0-1) (North Central) took the loss in his Bucks' debut in a very strong performance out of the bullpen. The right-hander sent down the first eight men he faced in the box before surrendering three hits and the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Tyler Selesky (Florida Gulf Coast) stayed hot at the plate with a triple, single and run scored, but Waterloo's offense compiled just five hits and had two men thrown out at the plate in the loss.
The Bucks got on the board in the top of the second when Jonah Bride (Neosho County CC) scored on a pickle play at second base. Matthew James (Illinois) was caught on the base paths with two outs in the inning, but evaded being tagged out until Bride crossed the plate from third base.
Nick Valaika (UCLA) sent Duluth in front, 2-1, with one swing of the bat in the fifth. The number-nine hitter sent a two-out two-run homerun, his first long ball of the year, over the left field wall to give the Huskies their first lead of the game.
Tyler Selesky quickly responded for Waterloo with a single and a run in the top of the sixth to tie the contest, 2-2. An errant pickoff thrown toward Zach McKinstry (Central Michigan) at first base in the frame allowed Selesky to cross home and even the scoring column.
Tyler Day (Stephen F. Austin) exited after 5 1/3 strong innings on the mound. The start allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out and walking three in the no-decision.
Brian Polowy toed the hill with one out in the bottom of the sixth and got the final two putouts of the inning with the bases loaded to begin his debut. The right-hander from North Central struck out one and walked one before the Huskies broke the tie to take the game, 3-2, in the ninth.
The Bucks close the two-game series in Duluth Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. from Wade Stadium. Waterloo returns home to host Alexandria and begins a six-game home stand on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Thursday marks Pro Wrestling Night where Kevin "Big Sexy" Nash will make an appearance.
