Dunlap, Vasquez Pace Kingfish in Landslide Win

Kenosha, Wis. - The Kingfish scored the game's first run on Alex Dunlap's RBI single in the first inning and never looked back, defeating the Lakeshore Chinooks by a final of 16-0 Tuesday night at Simmons Field.
The Kingfish (29-14) offense was absolutely on fire, banging out a franchise record 22 hits on the night. Dunlap brought home the first two runs for the Kingfish with his RBI hit in the first and sacrifice fly in the third. Two more runs in the fifth inning made it 4-0 Kingfish.
The offense really got going in the sixth and seventh innings for the Kingfish. Dunlap, Eric Filia, Alex Borglin, and Zach Ratcliff all had RBIs to fuel Kenosha for five runs in the sixth inning. The Kingfish broke it wide open in the bottom half of the seventh behind a Jeremy Vasquez grand slam. The right fielder from Florida launched the first pitch he saw over the right field wall to make it 15-0. Kenosha went for seven runs in the inning to make it 16-0 and it stayed that way until the final out.
There were great individual offensive performances all around for Kenosha. Dunlap and Vasquez finished with four RBIs apiece. Filia, Zach Weigel, and Ratcliff all had four hits and two RBIs.
Lost in the blowout win was the terrific outing by Kingfish starter Rico Garcia and the Kenosha bullpen to shut out Lakeshore. The native Hawaiian went five plus innings, fanning five and only allowing six hits to earn the win. Brett Shimanovsky and Garret McKenzie closed out the game for the Kingfish. This makes three straight victories for the Kingfish with tonight's shut out victory.
It was a tough evening for the Chinooks (21-20). Brian Keller took the loss after allowing eight runs on 13 hits in five innings. At the plate, Doug Kraeger led the Chinooks with three hits.
Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. is Grandparents Day and Kids Day presented by Meadowmere Southport Senior Living, Hospice Alliance, Azura Memory Care, Synergy HomeCare and Kenosha Estates Living & Care Center. Grandparents and kids are invited to play catch in the outfield before the game. A Petting Zoo sponsored by Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm will be set up for kids to interact with baby goats, llamas, ducks, and even an alpaca.
