Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes kicked off the 2008-2009 season in style this past week as Lethbridge Alumnus Mike Wuchterl returned to the ENMAX Centre to help raise the 2008 Eastern Conference Championship banner. The puck was dropped on the 2008-2009 season and the Canes were quick to get back to their winning ways. First, taking a 4-3 shootout win over Kootenay in the Dairy Queen Home Opener and then tallying a 1-0 shutout win over the Ice in Cranbrook. The 2-0 start was the Hurricanes first opening weekend sweep since 2003. This week the "Boys from the Bridge" will look to carry that momentum into a home and home matchup with their old Highway 3 rivals; the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Storm Warnings:
- The Boys are Back in Town - Hurricanes Captain Ben Wright made his return on Sunday in Cranbrook as he returned from Ottawa Senators camp. Carter Bancks also made his return to Lethbridge after garnering an invite to the Atlanta Thrashers main camp; but will be sidelined 2-4 weeks with a foot injury.
- Juha Metsola's first shutout of the season now gives him a career total of four as a member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Last season, Metsola and Michael Maniago combined for a Canes Club record eight shutouts.
- Second year Canes defenseman Brennan Yadlowski tallied his first WHL goal this past weekend to lead the Canes to a 1-0 victory.
