Hurricanes Pull away from Hitmen

Calgary, AB - Defenceman Alex Cotton snapped a 2-2 third period tie with 7:49 remaining to push the Lethbridge Hurricanes past the Calgary Hitmen 4-2 on Friday night at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Noah Boyko, Dino Kambeitz and Oliver Okuliar, into an empty net, also scored for the visitors.

Josh Prokop and Riley Stotts replied for the Hitmen who twice erased one goal deficits before the game winner from Cotton. Captain Mark Kastelic added a pair of assists for Calgary to move into a tie for 11th place in franchise scoring with Brandon Segal at 206 points, nine back of Ryan Getzlaf.

The Hurricanes outshot the Hitmen 34-24 and went 1-4 on the power play. Calgary was 1-1 with the extra attacker.

Calgary, 20-13-1-4 and holders of the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, return to the 'Dome to host the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2:00 p.m. It's another Sunday Funday presented by Ricky's All Day Grill featuring face painters, concourse activities, giveaways and a post-game family skate that is FREE with a game ticket.
