Swift Current Broncos News Release
LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Swift Current Broncos (9-26-1-2) fell behind 3-0 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes (25-10-2-5) just 10:20 into the game and couldn't claw their way out of it in a 7-2 loss Saturday night.
Koletrain Wilson opened the scoring on a shorthanded breakaway 3:38 into the game, giving the Hurricanes and early lead. Zack Stringer followed that up with a breakaway of his own four minutes later, as the first two shots Isaac Poulter faced were breakaways.
Chase Wheatcroft added the third goal of the period after Alex Moar blocked two open-net chances for the Hurricanes, putting the Broncos in a 3-0 hole through 20 minutes.
Jaxan Kaluski cut into the Hurricanes lead with his 10th of the season, deflecting a long wrist shot from Sam McGinley through the five hole of Bryan Thomson 4:26 into the second period.
Lethbridge wasted no time getting their lead back as rookie defenceman Chase Pauls notched his first career WHL goal with a long wrist shot from the line just a minute and a half later.
Justin Svenson cut the Lethbridge lead to two once again, scoring on a breakaway after poking the puck away from Alex Cotton at the Broncos line and beating Thomson on the glove side.
Lethbridge restored their lead as Brett Davis wired a one timer past Poulter's glove on the power play, giving the Hurricanes a 5-2 lead heading into the third.
Davis scored his second of the game just 40 seconds into the third and Logan Barlage capped off the scoring with his 15th of the year, seventh against the Broncos, as the Hurricanes cruised to victory.
The Broncos have a quick turnaround as they're in Calgary for an afternoon game against the Hitmen (20-13-4-1) Sunday.
