Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers found themselves in another tight knit battle with their arch nemesis the Lethbridge Hurricanes falling just short of a comeback 3-2 Saturday Night at Co-op Place.
The 1st period would see the Hurricanes and Tigers trade chances often but Jett Jones would find the back of the net off a shot that ricocheted off the back boards and found a wide open cage beating Tigers starter Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) to make it 1-0 Lethbridge at 11:20 and that would be the only tally of the period and the 'Canes would take a 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission.
Off to the second where a defensive battle occurred between the Tigers and Hurricanes and just one goal was scored in that time frame again belonging to the roadside as Logan Wormald would score off a shot that deflected off a Tigers stick to make 2-0 Lethbridge after 40 minutes of play at 6:59.
Fans had to be quick to get back in their seats when the Tigers would make Western Hockey League history as Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would score his 5th of the season just 5 seconds into the 3rd period breaking a league record that has stood since 2005, the fastest goal to begin a second or third period. The Tigers would look to build off the early momentum and had a powerplay minutes later, but on the expiration of the power play, Tyson Zimmer would end up on a breakaway where May made the original save but Zimmer tapped home a rebound to make it 3-1 Hurricanes at 8:38. The Tigers wouldn't give up though as a great shift by Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) was able to create a turnover in the Lethbridge zone and hit Dallon Melin (Czar, AB) for his 4th of the season at 17:25.
With the Evan May pulled for the extra attacker and a late power play, the Tigers had chances from Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) and Owen MacNeil (Calgary, AB) but time ran out on the Tigers comeback hopes.
With the loss the Tigers are 4-8-3 on the season while Lethbridge moved to 8-8-0-1. The Tigers penalty kill was busy killing off all seven penalties against them but couldn't cash in on any powerplays handed their way going 0/4.
The Tigers turn their attention to the Prince Albert Raiders who will be at Co-op Place on Tuesday night. Get you tickets now at tixx.ca
