Red Deer Rebels News Release
The Rebels sought their second home win in as many nights as they wrapped up their season series versus Lethbridge.
FIRST PERIOD
Red Deer opened the scoring on the strength of Reese Johnson's first career WHL goal. Johnson fought off a check to put home a rebound from Adam Musil's shot at the 15:11 mark for a 1-0 Rebels lead. Grayson Pawlenchuk also picked up an assist on the goal.
Lethbridge tied the game just over four minutes later at 15:11 when Mike Winther beat Rylan Toth for his 13th goal of the year.
SECOND PERIOD
Musil restored the Rebels one goal lead, showing great hand-eye coordination in tipping home a Connor Gay point shot for his 13 goal of the year. Scott Feser also assisted on the 2-1 powerplay goal 2:26 into the middle frame.
Tyler Wong later stole the puck from Musil in the Rebels end then cut in and scored his 23rd goal of the year to even this game 2-2.
THIRD PERIOD
Despite good scoring chances at both ends and a late Hurricanes powerplay neither team was able to break through with a goal. The game went to overtime tied 2-2.
OVERTIME
Jayden Sittler denied Wyatt Johnson on a penalty shot seven seconds into the extra frame. The Rebels outshot Lethbridge 3-0 in overtime but were unable to net the game winner.
SHOOTOUT
Kord Pankewicz scored the game winner in the fifth round of the shootout to give the Hurricanes a 3-2 win.
