Vancouver Giants News Release
The Kamloops Blazers scored four unanswered goals in the third period to come from behind and beat the Vancouver Giants 6-3 on Saturday evening at the Interior Savings Centre. Vancouver got goals from Jackson Houck, Ty Ronning and Carter Popoff.
Houck put the Giants ahead in the early stages when he scored from in close in the opening three minutes of the game. Quinn Benjafield tied the score for Kamloops before the midway mark of the period, but Ronning netted his first of the season from off the rush with 1:40 to go in the frame to put Vancouver ahead through 20 minutes.
Luke Harrison made it 2-2, scoring for Kamloops late in the second period, before Popoff put Vancouver in front again when he bagged his 24th goal of the season on a pretty back hand play from the slot at 2:23 of the third period. However, the Blazers stormed back to take control of game as Michael Fora and Cole Ully both beat Vancouver goaltender Payton Lee before Benjafield chipped in with his second of the night and Matt Needham added an empty netter to clinch the two points for Kamloops.
With the loss, Vancouver fell into fourth in the BC Division by virtue of the fact that the Prince George Cougars won on Saturday night in Everett. PG is now one point ahead of Vancouver while Kamloops is only one point behind them. The Giants remained two points back of the Tri-City Americans who currently hold the final Western Conference Wild Card playoff spot.
The Giants will play next on Tuesday night in Spokane against the Chiefs. Face-off is set for 7:00pm.
Vancouver's next home game is on Friday, March 6th when the Kelowna Rockets visit the Rink on Renfrew for Vancouver Canadians Tribute Night! For tickets, visit VancouverGiants.com or call 604-4-GIANTS.
