Hunter Strand & Todd Scott Named USHL Players of the Week
Kearney, NE. - Tri-City Storm forward Hunter Strand has been named the USHL's Forward of the Week and Storm goaltender Todd Scott has been named the USHL's Goaltender of the Week for Week 1 of the 2020-2021 season. The USHL has combined the "Players of the Week" awards for Week's 1 & 2 of the season due to the limited amount of games that have been played. Strand shares Forward of the Week honors with Mackie Samoskevich of the Chicago Steel. Tyler Dunbar of the Muskegon Lumberjacks has been named the USHL Defenseman of the Week.
Hunter Strand, 18, of Anchorage, Alaska was named the USHL's "Forward of the Week" for the first time in his USHL career following a two goal, two assist, performance in Tri-City's season opening road victory over the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday, November 7th. Strand's goals were the 9th & 10th of his USHL career. Strand was selected by the Storm 2nd overall in the 1st Round of the 2020 USHL Phase II Draft. Through the first three games of the regular season, Strand is tied for the team lead in Goals (2,), Assists (2), and Points (4) with Carter Mazur. Strand previously announced a commitment to play college hockey at the University of Notre Dame.
Todd Scott, 20, of Albertville, Minnesota was named the USHL's "Goaltender of the Week" for the first time in his USHL career following a 31 save on 32 shot performance in Tri-City's opening game of the 2020-2021 regular season against the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday, November 7th. Scott recorded the win in net and was named the 2nd Star of the Game. Scott got the start in goal following two shutouts and a perfect 2-0-0-0 record during the preseason. Scott was acquired by the Storm in a transaction with the Sioux City Musketeers on January 10th, 2020. He appeared in thirteen games with Tri-City during the 2019-2020 regular season.
"It's an amazing honor to be named a USHL Forward of the Week because everyone is so skilled in this league and so deserving. Everything was just clicking with our team against Sioux City. I felt that Carter Mazur and myself were really connected and everything was going well for us. We are focusing on the challenge ahead and right now that is to beat the Fargo Force this weekend at the Viaero Center. We're all taking things day by day and training so we will be ready for each game." Forward Hunter Strand
"I'm grateful and excited to see what the season has in store for our team. All honors go to the team, special teams gave us a great opportunity to win and I just did my best to pull the same rope and get the win. I've been working a lot on my footwork as well as maintain a good mindset through this season on and off the ice" Goaltender Todd Scott
"For Hunter, I think that opening game was just a continuation of what we saw in training camp. He came in in great shape, he brings it every single day and it's good to see guys get rewarded come game time. Todd is another guy who had a great training camp, he didn't let in a goal during the preseason and that carried over to a high level of confidence in the regular season. He made key saves during that game that allowed us to pull away in the game." Head Coach Anthony Noreen
