Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel forward Mackie Samoskevich has been named the USHL Forward of the Week for the first time in his USHL career following his five-point (5A) outing in a 10-8 loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Nov. 14.

"As a staff we are proud of the approach that Mackie brings to the rink every day," said Steel Head Coach Brock Sheahan. "He takes advantage of every opportunity to get better and that has shown in his development through last season, this off-season and early on this year. It is always nice to have the League recognize individuals on our team and it reflects the work that our entire team puts in every day."

The University of Michigan commit entered the 2020-2021 season coming off a rookie campaign in which he tallied 34 points (13G, 21A) in 47 games, helping the Steel to the first regular season championship in franchise history.

Samoskevich, a native of Newtown, Conn., was ranked as an 'A'-rated skater on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary watch list for the 2021 NHL Draft and was recently named an Alternate Captain for the Steel this season.
