September 4, 2004 - Midwest League (MWL1)
West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
The West Michigan Whitecaps are playoff-bound but still aren't sure who they will meet in the first round of the playoffs. The Whitecaps were beaten by the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 6-4, on Saturday night as the two teams are wrapping-up the regular season with a weekend series in Iowa. The Whitecaps still don't know if they will meet Battle Creek or Fort Wayne in the opening round of the playoffs that starts Wednesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.
The Whitecaps fell behind 5-1 after two innings and never recovered as the Kernels made it two straight over the 'Caps who have lost their last three games.
Highlights for the 'Caps included Kelly Hunt driving in his 100th run of the season. Hunt becomes just the second player in franchise history to drive in 100 runs in a single year.
Newcomer Bo Flowers, who just joined the 'Caps this week, smashed his first homer in a West Michigan uniform.
The Whitecaps and Kernels will now meet in game three of the series on Sunday afternoon in Iowa at 3:00 Michigan time.
