Whitecaps Cool Thunder To Take Series Lead

September 4, 2004 - Midwest League (MWL1)
West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

The Whitecaps Men scored a spectacular goal early in each half to take a 2-0 first-leg advantage in their two- game total-goal series with Minnesota in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

However the Vancouver offence was tempered by a 55th minute red card to defender Geordie Lyall. The referee also red-carded Carlo Corazzin and Minnesota's Godfrey Tenoff after the final whistle, as tempers flared on both teams. Corazzin's 6th minute goal on a bicycle kick stood up as the winner, with Davide Xausa doubling the lead 2 minutes after the break with an equally impressive volley. Goalkeeper Mike Franks made two saves to earn his third shutout.

The Whitecaps play the second game of this home and home series Sunday, September 5th in St. Paul, Minnesota. Game time is 4pm PST. Visit whitecapsfc.com for live scores throughout the game, plus a complete post-game report. The Whitecaps need to maintain their two goal advantage in this two game total goal series to advance to the Western Conference Final.
