Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - Battle Creek used a three-run seventh inning to propel them to a 3-0 win over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday night at C.O. Brown Stadium. The win secures Battle Creek¹s eighth straight winning season, the best current streak in Minor League baseball. Brandon Harmsen did not factor in the decision, but he did set a franchise-record for the best winning percentage in a single season, breaking the record set by Roy Oswalt in 1999. The two teams were locked in a pitcher¹s duel until the seventh, when the Yankees broke through with three runs. Nick Walsh had an RBI single, Hector Made drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run and and Erold Andrus¹ fielder¹s choice plated another run to give the Yankees their insurmountable 3-0 lead.

Harmsen pitched 6.1 innings scattering six hits and striking out one. His winning percentage of .769 (10-3) broke the old mark of .765 set by Oswalt during the 1999 season.

Paul Thorp (2-4) got the win in relief. He went 1.2 innings allowing no hits and no runs. Mike Martinez work the ninth for his first save of the season.

The Yankees are now 37-31 for the second half, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The series continues Sunday afternoon at 2. Josh Smith will take the mound for the Yankees against Joe Wilson for Dayton.
