Norfolk Tides News Release
June 4, 2006 - Old Dominion product Tim Hummel had two hits and two RBI to lead a 14-hit Charlotte attack, lifting the Knights to a 6-5 win over Norfolk Sunday afternoon from Harbor Park.
Hummel, who graduated from Old Dominion in 2000, doubled twice and hit a sacrifice fly to help Charlotte withstand several Norfolk rallies and wrap up a four-game sweep of the series.
Jose Lima (4-4) took the loss for Norfolk, allowing six runs on 12 hits in 5.2 innings of work. The 33-year-old walked one and struck out one, as the Tides fell to 1-10 against the IL South Division at Harbor Park this year.
Chase Lambin singled twice and scored twice in the contest, while Chris Basak singled and scored in the sixth inning to lead the Tides offense. With the hit, Basak extended his hitting streak to ten games, one short of Norfolk's season-high, set by Lastings Milledge earlier this year.
Tim Redding (5-5) earned the win for Charlotte, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits in 6.0 innings of work. Javier Lopez earned his 8th save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth, inducing a game-ending double play off the bat of Victor Diaz with runners on first and second to end the ballgame.
The Tides will look to snap a season-high four game skid as they welcome the Syracuse SkyChiefs to Harbor Park for a four-game series beginning Monday night. Evan MacLane (4-0, 1.93) is scheduled to take the hill for the Tides against Syracuse right-hander Dustin McGowan (2-1, 3.76). Game time is set for 7:15 p.m.
