Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Syracuse SkyChiefs 13-6 Sunday at The Diamond. The Braves rallied from a 6-0 deficit to beat the Chiefs for the third time in four games.
Syracuse batted around in the top of the first, scoring five runs. Chad Mattola smashed a three run homer and Rob Crosby doubled two in. John Hattig chased a run home with a single in the second to give Syracuse a 6-0 lead. The Braves began their comeback in the home half, sending eight men up. Jonathan Schuerholz knocked in a run with a two out single and set the stage for a Scott Thorman grand slam. The Braves moved in front to stay with two runs in the fourth. Martin Prado's RBI single tied the game at six. Thorman picked up his fifth RBI of the game to give Richmond the lead. In the fifth Tony Pena singled two runs in and Richmond scored another on a rundown to stretch their lead to 10-6. Prado, Pena, and Schuerholz knocked in runs with seventh inning singles to cap the scoring.
The Braves bullpen worked seven scoreless innings as Richmond piled up season highs in runs and hits (19). Peter Moylan worked three innings to earn the win. Phil Stockman also turned in a three inning shutout stint. Schuerholz, Prado, and Dax Norris had three hits each. Josh Banks took the loss. Russ Adams had three hits for Syracuse.
