
Huge Inning Propels Blue Jays to 11-5 Win at Mets

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Dunedin Blue Jays scored nine runs in the fourth inning in an 11-5 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Education Day at First Data Field on Wednesday.
The game was scoreless through three innings, then Dunedin sent 14 batters to the plate in the rough fourth. Chavez Young started the scoring by hitting a two-run homer off of Mets starter Kevin Smith.
Jesus Navarro hit a RBI single against reliever Conner O'Neil to make it 3-0. O'Neil got a double play ball that brought in a run for a 4-0 Dunedin lead.
Despite hitting into the double play, the Blue Jays still managed to score five more times in the inning. Norberto Obeso, Chris Bec, Young and Demi Orimoloye added RBI singles against O'Neil and Carlos Hernandez.
The Blue Jays scored two more runs in the fifth for an 11-0 lead.
The Mets offense ended up producing 14 hits and the next five runs. Matt Winaker went 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run. Mitch Ghelfi also went 3 for 4 with a RBI and a run.
Quinn Brodey and Manny Rodriguez had two hits apiece.
Smith took the loss. He was tagged for three runs and four hits over three innings. O'Neil surrendered five hits and six runs in 0.2 innings.
Dunedin starter Maximo Castillo was credited with the win. He lasted five innings and gave up two runs.
Young went 3 for 5 with three RBI. Navarro, Orimoloye and Bec had two hits each. Kacy Clemens walked twice and had a single.
The ballgame lasted three hours and 35 minutes. It was the longest game of the year for the Mets. Tuesday's one hour and 56 minute game was the shortest of the season.
The Mets (23-22) welcome the Lakeland Flying Tigers to First Data Field for a four-game series starting on Thursday. First pitch on Dollar Night is 6:30 p.m. Fans can enjoy $1 beer (8 oz. cans of Bud and Bud Light), $1 hot dogs, $1 soda and $1 popcorn.
