Florida Fire Frogs News Release

TAMPA, FL: The Tampa Tarpons put together a productive second inning for the third consecutive night, running away with a 7-1 victory and a series sweep of the Florida Fire Frogs on Wednesday night at Steinbrenner Field.

A sacrifice fly off the bat of Welfrin Mateo started the scoring for the Tarpons in the second. Isiah Gilliam's two-out, two-run single off LHP Philip Pfeifer was a huge swing in momentum for Tampa, who catapulted out to a 3-0 lead.

Another two-out, two-run knock from Tyler Hill plated Angel Aguilar and Mateo in the third to bump the advantage to 5-0.

Pfeifer (0-2) threw a career-high 102 pitches, surrendering five earned runs on seven hits, four walks, and punching out four hitters in five innings of work.

The Tarpons put two more on the board against RHP Walter Borkovich in the sixth. Pablo Olivares singled in Mateo and Oswaldo Cabrera's RBI groundout scored Hill; 7-0 Tarpons.

Olivares went 3-5 with an RBI for the Tarpons. Aguilar, Mateo, and Hill each had two hits.

Borkovich gave up two runs and four hits while retiring six Tarpons.

The Fire Frogs put together back-to-back hits in the seventh to scratch across a run. Izzy Wilson doubled off RHP Braden Bristo, then Juan Morales singled him home to record his first Advanced-A RBI and cut the Tampa lead to 7-1.

Bristo allowed those two hits and a single run in 2 and 1/3's frames. He followed RHP Frank German (2-2) who struck out eight, walked three, and yielded four hits in 5 and 2/3's innings.

RHP Brandon White tossed a scoreless eighth for the Fire Frogs.

Tampa's RHP Kyle Zurak turned in a 1-2-3 frame in the ninth to finish the game.

FROGS NOTES: Just activated today from Danville, Hagen Owenby went 2-4 with a single in the second and a double in the fourth. William Contreras extended his hitting streak to nine games with a knock in the third inning. Kevin Josephina and Greyson Jenista reached base twice.

NEXT UP: The Fire Frogs travel north to Dunedin to take on the Blue Jays and begin a four-game series at Jack Russell Stadium on Thursday evening. RHP Freddy Tarnok (1-3, 6.44) toes the slab with first pitch being thrown at 6:30 p.m.
