Cabbage Goes Deep, But Bradenton Rallies Late

BRADENTON, Fla. - Trey Cabbage launched his first home run with the Miracle, but Bradenton rallied late to beat Fort Myers, 2-1, on Wednesday night at LECOM Park.

Cabbage, who hit six home runs in 18 games with Cedar Rapids prior to his call up to the Miracle, went deep to the opposite field in left to put the Miracle up, 1-0, in the second.

Cabbage's blast was the only hit for Fort Myers against Bradenton right-hander Max Kranick, who walked one and struck out three in seven innings. He threw just 66 pitches, 45 for strikes.

Bryan Sammons struck out eight over six shutout innings for the Miracle. He allowed three hits and only one left the infield.

Alex Phillips came on for the eighth in his first appearance back with the Miracle after being transferred from Double-A Pensacola. He walked the first two batters he faced on 3-2 pitches before a sacrifice bunt by Randolph Gassaway moved both runners into scoring position. Chase Lambert brought home a run with a sacrifice-fly to right and another run scored after Trevor Larnach's throw to third got past Jose Miranda and went out of play.

The Miracle had good chances to tie the game in the eighth and ninth inning, but came up short. In the eighth, Ryan Jeffers led off with a single and Fort Myers had runners on first and third with two out. Aaron Whitefield hit a sharp ground ball up the middle, but his fellow Australian Robbie Glendinning made a diving stop and threw to second for the force out.

Royce Lewis led off with an infield single in the ninth and advanced to second on a deep fly ball to right center by Lewin Diaz. With Trevor Larnach at the plate, Lewis moved to third on a wild pitch. However, Larnach struck out swinging and Jose Miranda grounded to second to end the game.

Kranick (2-5) earned the win for Bradenton. Logan Stoelke picked up his first save. Phillips (0-2) suffered the loss for the Miracle.

The Miracle continue their 11-game road trip in 12 days on Thursday with the first of four in Daytona Beach against the Daytona Tortugas. Left-hander Charlie Barnes will start for the Miracle.
