Frederick Keys News Release
LF Kyle Hudson had three hits, 3B Billy Rowell drove home three runs and starter Rick Zagone picked up a well deserved first win as the Keys defeated Salem 7-2 on Monday night at Lewis-Gale Field.
Frederick gathered the lead early, loading the bases in the first inning for Rowell who singled home two runs. The Keys would never trail.
The Keys added a run in the second inning with three singles to score 2B Buck Britton. Britton and the man who drove him home, RF Ronnie Welty each had two hits.
Zagone worked through trouble retiring the clean-up hitter Will Middlebrooks with two-on and two-out in a 5-2 game in the fifth inning to write his name in the win column. RHP Sean Gleason pitched three scoreless innings before giving the way to RHP Jose Duran who shut the door quickly in the ninth inning.
With the win the Keys hold a season-high five game lead in the Northern Division.
Frederick and Salem are right back at it Tuesday, May 11th with Ryan O'Shea on the hill for the Keys. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning on the Keys Baseball Network at 6:45 p.m. from Salem, VA.
The Keys return home Monday, May 17th to take on the Potomac Nationals at 7:00 p.m. It is a Kids Eat Free Monday. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
